Why Political Yard Signs Matter

There are essentially only a couple of schools of thought when it comes to political yard signs. On one side, you have those who will argue that yard signs do not vote. On the other hand, you have many supporters and volunteers who want them so that they can show their support for you and your campaign values. In addition to these arguments, political science research has argued that yard signs do increase name recognition. That being said, yard signs can be a great cost –effective tool for public name recognition and can create some momentum for your campaign

We all understand that, generally, people don’t vote for those names that they do not recognize. So while yard signs do not, in fact, directly influence a vote, that are what gets a campaign’s momentum started. By utilizing election yard signs, a candidate gets a bit of a jump start on getting name recognition for when the time comes for them to do interviews, roundtables, and debates.

The bottom line here is that political yard signs do matter. While those who say that they are a waste of time and money have a valid point in that they do not ensure or correlate to a one for one ratio to vote, they do aid in kick-starting some, often times, much needed momentum for a particular candidate’s campaign.
