What’s the Best Yard Sign Color Scheme?
There are a few things that should be considered when choosing your color scheme for your yard sign campaign. The colors need be attention grabbing and yet legible at the same time. While orange and yellow are the two most attention grabbing colors, when placed together the text is rendered illegible. The colors you choose should be contrasting with each other, so if you choose a dark background, choose a bright color for the text or vice versa.
Your opponent’s campaign color scheme should be kept in mind as well. If your colors are too similar to your opponent’s, chances are, your sign will be mistaken for theirs.
There is a general consensus as to what colors should be portrayed in a political campaign in the United States. For the majority of candidates, the “go-to” colors tend be red, white, and blue, and for obvious reason; the colors are contrasting and they portray a clear message that you are running for some type of political office since they correspond to the colors of the American flag. Many politicians are starting to choose other colors to run on in order to stand out against the crowd.
A quick search of color theory can give you multiple articles on what colors mean in general and to specific cultures, and the general feeling one receives upon immediately seeing the colors. A word of caution when it comes to choosing your color scheme: Be careful, because, as with many other aspects of your campaign, the colors can make or break you.
